Jubilee concert weekend workshop

We’ve been busy practising hard for our Spring Jubilee concert. On Sunday 20 March we took our rehearsing even further and got together for an afternoon workshop.

We gathered for a 1:30pm start and began with a good warm-up, which is something we do at the start of all our rehearsals to get us in the zone. We focused on playing in sync with each other and playing the right dynamics in the right places. This then got us thinking about the musical elements we needed to apply to all our playing throughout the rehearsal.

A challenging programme of pieces

We’ve got some challenging pieces in the Jubilee concert programme which are really coming together now.

At the workshop we got right into the detail and practised difficult passages to help us get our fingers round all the notes. Some of us have been doing a bit of practise at home too, so hopefully we’ll be able to perform using muscle memory on the night!

To get our breath back we had a few breaks throughout the afternoon, which gave us a chance to get refreshments and have a natter outside in the sunshine. When the rehearsal finished, some of us went out for dinner too, to carry on the socialising.

Celebrating everything British

Our programme is packed with a variety of pieces you’ll love. There’s film music; there’s swing music; a flute and clarinet duet, and a jaw-dropping xylophone solo. And of course it wouldn’t be a Jubilee celebration without some truly patriotic British classics. You’ll definitely want to wave a flag to these (which you can buy along with a programme on the night)!

The concert promises to be patriotic, powerful, and a big celebration of everything we love about Britain, to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee this year.

Our Jubilee celebration concert is on Saturday 23 April at 7:30pm, at the Verwood Hub in Verwood. Tickets are £10 per adult and under 14s go free. It’s going to be a fabulous evening of entertainment. you don’t want to miss.
