Sore lips and earworms at our musicals workshop
We all trickled in to the school hall for 10am on Sunday 12 April, for a day of rehearsing together for our musicals concert. One of our clarinet players, Janet C, gives an account of the musicals workshop…

Rehearsing with singers from Bournemouth Musical Theatre Productions
Sore lips and earworms… but what a day! My head is still buzzing with wonderful tunes – from Hairspray to West Side Story, Oklahoma to Phantom of the Opera – as I arrive home from a full day’s rehearsal for our next concert.
Joined by fabulous theatre performers
We were joined by members of Bournemouth Musical Theatre Productions and it was the first time that we had heard them in full voice. Some HOT singing (and what WAS that top note at the end of Wicked? Wow!). Both Wicked and our brilliant new compilation Musicals Rock have been written for band and choir by our very own Adam (Mr Fluffy Hat).
Challenging and rewarding pieces
Simon has really challenged us (Miss Saigon in particular, epic and exciting), but his faith in us (“trust in yourselves!”) has been rewarded as he has inspired us to bring joy and energy to all that we play.
That energy extended to some (mad?) members, naming no names (Katie and Tracey) who were doing sprint triathlon and sea swimming before joining us for the day.
We also had time for cake and chat and cake, and to celebrate Angela’s special birthday.
A successful musicals workshop
Bournemouth and District Concert Band has been part of my life on and off for several decades, and I love being a member of this happy, sociable, inspired and hugely talented band.
Come along and see our next concert if you can. It’s on Saturday 2nd May, 7:30pm, at Bournemouth Life Centre, Winton – it’ll be a cracker!
