About BDCB

We’re a large community concert band in Bournemouth, with around 75 musicians of all ages – from 14 years up.

Our band members come from all over the area including Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne, Ferndown, Christchurch, Highcliffe, and beyond.

We rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30pm at Queen’s Park Infant Academy, East Way, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH8 9PU. Our Musical Director is Simon Nicholls – read Simon’s biography and we have a large committee of people helping to keep band running behind the scenes.

The music we play

We play a huge variety of music. Phantom of the Opera, Abba, Daft Punk, Skyfall, Life on Mars, Moment for Morricone, The Pacific and Star Wars are just a few of the pieces. There’s something for everyone.

Daleks joined us for a theatrical performance of Doctor Who: Through Space and Time:

Here we’re practising an excerpt from John Williams’ E.T.

Here we’re playing I’m Shipping Up to Boston by Dropkick Murphys at one of our rehearsals:

Bournemouth Daytime Community Band – also BDCB!

We’ve started a new exciting venture with two aims:

  • to get more local people involved in playing music
    and
  • to spread the joy of music in our community

Bournemouth Daytime Community Band is a new offshoot of our main band. Members meet on the first Wednesday of every month to play music together in a friendly, sociable setting. The aim is to go out into care homes and places in our community, to spread happiness through the art of music.

This is the perfect opportunity if you’d like to pick up your instrument again after not playing it for a while. Or you want to gain more confidence playing with a group of like-minded people. Perhaps you’re looking for a band that rehearses in the day time rather than in the evening. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to hear from you.

Bournemouth and District Concert Band’s history

We started out in 1990 as the Kingsleigh Concert Band and became the Bournemouth and District Concert Band soon after in 1993.

Since then we’ve held lots of concerts and this year we’re celebrating our 30th anniversary in style with lots of concerts, events and socials planned.

Band socials

We’re a sociable bunch. As well as performing a variety of concerts throughout the year, we try to have an evening out each term. We also go to the pub after rehearsals.

Check us out on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to see what we’re up to.
