Our Daytime Community Band’s first concert was a hit
After only 10 rehearsals together since they first began, it was time for the Bournemouth Daytime Community Band’s first concert this summer.
The band performed for Langside School - a Diverse Abilities’ visionary school for pupils aged two to 19 with profound physical and learning disabilities, and complex medical needs.
One of our flute players, Helen, tells us about the concert from her perspective…
The Daytime Community Band was privileged to be invited by Langside School to be a part of their end year celebrations at St Mark’s Church in Talbot Woods, on 17 July 2026. Bright colours was the instruction for our uniform. The church was decorated beautifully by the school.
‘A Million Dreams’ kicked off the concert
Our Daytime Community Band preparing before the concert begins
We started playing ‘A Million Dreams’ while watching all the amazing children and families enter the church, each one of them invested in the school.
Emily, a child at the school, stood up and signed to a song during the service while her teacher gently encouraged her. I was in awe watching the teachers who were busily sorting out feeding tubes; one gently lying a child on a mat during the service.
All the children received a special certificate with words of encouragement throughout the service.
We treated the parents, teachers and children to excerpts from Disney, Radetzky March, All that Jazz, Trumpet Voluntary and Build Me Up Buttercup.
Positive feedback on our Daytime Community Band’s first concert
After the concert, a parent stopped me on the road outside the church and said a really big thank you. They said the parents didn’t know anything about us and were so grateful we gave our time up.
Thanks to everyone.

Well done to everyone in the Bournemouth Daytime Community Band. We’re so proud of the band and what they have achieved in such a short amount of time. They’re already preparing for their next concert on 6 September at the Bearwood Village Fete. There’s no stopping them now! Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for details.
