About us
We’re one of the largest community concert bands in Bournemouth with around 75 musicians of all ages – from age 14 years upwards. The band is made up of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments.
Our band members come from all over Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole, and surrounding areas.
We rehearse every Thursday evening from 7:30-9:30pm at Queen’s Park Infant Academy, East Way, Bournemouth, Dorset, BH8 9PU.
BDCB Musical Director,
Simon Nicholls
Simon spent 33 years playing in various Royal Marines bands; he's been principal trombonist and he has extensive experience conducting and leading bands. He also loves rugby.
The music we play
We play a huge variety of music. From TV and film music, theatre compositions and Disney medleys, to military marches, folk tunes and popular songs. Some pieces are challenging and others are easier - there’s a good balance for band members, and there’s something for everyone.
Here we are performing Dr Who at a Space and Sci-Fi-themed concert.
The set was impressive with moody lighting, a real life-sized tardis, interactive screens and appearances from the Daleks, Ewok and imperial guards themselves.
Read all about it in our Space and Sci-Fi blog.
This is us at one of our Thursday evening rehearsals, getting ready for a concert.
Here we’re playing Dropkick Murphy’s Shipping Up to Boston.

Bournemouth Daytime Community Band
Our Bournemouth Daytime Community Band (also BDCB) is our offshoot band with two aims:
to get more local people involved in playing music
andto spread the joy of music in our community
Members meet on the first Wednesday of every month to play music together in a friendly, sociable and informal setting. It’s the perfect opportunity if you want to pick up your instrument again; get more confidence playing music; or you’re simply looking for a band that rehearses in the day occasionally.
Our trustees and committee members
We have trustees and a large committee of people who help keep band running behind the scenes. We’re also very lucky to have other band members helping out too.

Bournemouth and District Concert Band’s history
We started out in 1990 as the Kingsleigh Concert Band and became the Bournemouth and District Concert Band soon after in 1993.
Since then we’ve held lots of concerts, and performed around the country and abroad. Today, the band has grown to around 75 musicians.
Band socials
We’re a sociable bunch of people. As well as performing a variety of concerts throughout the year, we try to have an evening out each term. We also go to the pub after rehearsals, and organise ad-hoc meet-ups when there are local events on. There’s no pressure to be social, although you’re bound to find something that you can get involved in.
